University of Sheffield

(5)·By Bryn S·Mathematics· Jun 2026
Up until halfway through year 13, I was sure I wanted to do a degree apprenticeship; however, I changed my mind and decided to go to the University of Sheffield. The course is great, all the maths I’m learning is interesting, and the modules are varied, which I enjoy. The university accommodation at Ranmoor and Endcliffe is comfortable and well maintained. The walk to university is 25 minutes, but buses run between the accommodation and campus, which is convenient when it rains. The ensuite accommodation is almost identical no matter where you are in Ranmoor and Endcliffe, so no one gets better rooms than others. Finally, the social aspect of university is fantastic at Sheffield, with plenty of opportunities to join societies and meet people on your course.

The student life is fantastic, with lots of support for first-year students around the halls. There is a great community. The commute is longer than at some universities, but it is enjoyable because Sheffield is a very green city and it means you get your steps in. There is a fantastic student union with a great club in it. Additionally, there are thousands of societies you can join.

Halls in first year made socialising incredibly easy, and I made loads of friends. The commute in first year was long, around 35 minutes, but now that I’m in second year, it’s about 15 to 20 minutes from Broomhill or Crookes. The social scene is great, with societies and lots of clubs and bars, so I would definitely recommend it.

I really enjoy my course.

I like how it's integrated, so we have some group activities as well as lectures. I prefer this to courses that have a heavier PBL style, as lectures are a very good source of information. I think the staff here are really good at what they do. I think the SU is quite good too. There are loads of societies, and there's always something for everyone.

It was a really varied and diverse course with a lot of insightful modules. The teaching was valuable and the lecturers gave a lot of their time. Aside from the course, there were a huge variety of extracurricular activities and societies to take part in, which was a really good benefit.

I loved my time in Sheffield, the university the students and all the professors. My medical training in Sheffield was exceptional, all the doctors were great and understanding. The modules were well taught and structured in a logical manner. If I only I could go back in time and enjoy the city even more!

University of sheffield

The university of Sheffield is a very welcoming place. It's very diverse and inclusive. The campus is spacious and welcoming, everything is close together and the learning environment is wonderful. The lessons are engaging and well taught, homework and course work are evenly spaced out and support sessions are always offered. The university makes sure students are offered support both academically and mentally, I personally have taken advantage of both and have both proven to be very helpful and effective. The university of Sheffield also runs hundreds of activities during the week through the residence life programs which keep the community growing and tightly knit. The activities are also perfect for relieving stress or just trying something different and completely new like alpaca trekking. There are also hundreds of societies so everyone is bound to find one they like, I'm currently in the lacrosse team and I only really just found out about the sport but I'm having so much fun even though I was nervous and sceptical to go at first, I'm really really enjoying it. If sports aren't your thing then there are loads more like the crochet society which I've joined recently and am having so much fun in. I get to make new friends in a very calm and welcoming environment (and snacks are provided :) )
The uni of Sheffield is a great university all around it has the perfect balance of city and nature and it's surrounded by so many beautiful landscapes it seems unreal!
I truly love my university and I am absolutely certain I couldn't have chosen a better one :)

Top university!

(5)·By Yusuf S·Human Resource Management· Jun 2023
Studying at the University of Sheffield was brillaint. My course was highly enjoyable but equally challenging. I completed modules on not just human resource management, but also accounting and strategic management. This gave me a great understanding of the field of business as a whole. The university offered financial help during the pandemic and even allowed students to complete examinations from home. The lecturers were very supportive and offered help with the assignments as much as possible. Each student had their own tutor to guide them with any issues which was very useful. The student Union is fun with lots of things to do, including sports, music, and restaurants. The city itself is beautiful - it is a healthy middle between a busy city and a small town. Coming from London, I really enjoyed living in Sheffield as I took a break from the busy city life. Everywhere is easy to get to without the need to take a tube or train. The rent is also very cheap, specially in comparison to big cities like London. I lived in an ensuite room within the city centre for £360 a month (including all bills). The accommodation even had a private gym and a beautiful rooftop area where you can see the whole city.
