Supportive and encouraging

(5)·By Beverley R·Archaeology· Jun 2026
I studied in Orkney, so the social scene was relatively quiet. However, sometimes you don't need large crowds to enjoy student life. The course included high-quality teaching with interesting and varied modules. Many students attend remotely, making the course very accessible. The teaching staff were always very encouraging, and the department as a whole was incredibly welcoming. Accommodation in Orkney is not provided by the university, and there is a general shortage of accommodation on the islands. Nevertheless, this did not spoil my experience on my archaeology course.

High-quality teaching and a friendly atmosphere

(5)·By Tetiana B·English Studies· Jun 2026
I’ve had a really positive experience at this university. The teaching is high-quality, and the lecturers are supportive, approachable, and genuinely interested in students’ progress. My course is well organised, with clear expectations and useful feedback that helps me improve. Student life feels welcoming and inclusive, and it’s easy to meet people through classes and university activities. The facilities and learning resources are very good, and there is helpful support available when you need it. Overall, it’s a great place to study, develop your skills, and feel part of a friendly community.

Fantastic Uni.

(5)·By Anon A·Criminology· Sep 2025
I have just completed my BA (Hons) in Criminology at UHI.
Tutors: 10/10. They go out of their way to help you with your dissertation. They will give you good feedback back and advice on all your assignments. An important point to make here is that if you're unsure you have to ask.
UHI: 10/10 for the courses. Being that my course was online it shows future bosses that you can work by yourself snd in a team and adaptable.
Having dyslexia recorded lectures helped a lot.
All in all It's a fantastic University which offers plenty of opportunities and I would consider doing a Masters here.

Accounting and Finance, Year 1

(5)·By Leah M·Accounting· Mar 2019
It was brilliant so much to do! They had pizza and games and an entire week of events including places to go at night unfortunately I was only 17 then so couldn’t go but enjoyed the fun stuff during the week .

I don’t use the accommodation at uni as I only live 20 miles away but from what I have heard and seen it seems very nice it’s just beside the uni too which is better also not much to travel it’s just a walk away.

Library is brilliant it has 2 levels we got shown round it in our freshers week. The classrooms are very well facillitated as we use the computers they all work well and there’s plenty of them no need to share etc.

It’s what I want to do in the future which is even better. I’m learning from people with experience in the subject and they make it fun and interesting and help us to collaborate with each other. It’s definitely made me want a future job in the industry I am studying.

I was only 17 when I started so I never knew much about the nightclubs at freshers but now I love it ! Perth is great has shops etc and a lot of lovely restaurants and it’s not a far walk from the uni

My course is brilliant for those who enjoy working on computers and numbers etc. The lecturers are brilliant they know so much you can ask them anything. There’s so many different units and even if there’s one you don’t like you know that the others are enjoyable. I highly recommend the course!

Friendly, interesting and the lecturers and generally approachable. Due to the classes being over VC it's quite a new experience.

UHI Perth food, nutrition, and textiles education

(4.8)·By Rhiannon B·Education / Teacher Training· Jun 2026
This course is amazing, and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to become a home economics teacher, as it gives you all the skills you need. One big thing I love is that my lecturers know me by my name and not by a number. UHI Perth has given me amazing support throughout my course so far. I would highly recommend it!

Friendly university with very interesting course options.

My course is an MLitt in Coastal and Maritime Societies and Cultures, under the umbrella of the UHI School of History. The modules are drawn from History, Archaeology, and Northern Studies disciplines. The content is fascinating, and the tutors and other students are very nice. The course is delivered almost entirely online, with students from all over the world, including quite a few mature students like me.

I find UHI friendly and personal, probably because the individual centres and departments are small. You really feel that you get to know your tutor and the other students. All my studying takes place in my living room, so I can’t comment on commuting, accommodation, or the social scene. However, I am going on an excavation in Orkney this summer, which will be a very nice commute and environment.
