Great city, great socials, great sport, great time!

(5)·By Kiana G·Languages· Jun 2026
Being a member of the hockey club made the transition from sixth form to university very easy. The commute was difficult as I live in the southeast of England, but I was able to use train and plane options to get home when needed. Rent is expensive, but properties are huge. The social life is excellent. I liked the four-year course with a year abroad to practice my languages. It was really good fun, but I could have had better assistance from the university, as I missed a deadline and had to work rather than go to university. There needs to be clearer information about deadline dates.

Veterinary medicine at Edinburgh

(5)·By Cara E·Veterinary Sciences· Jun 2026
I really enjoy life at Edinburgh Uni! There were loads of great mixers and opportunities where I met most of my friends on my course, even though I lived at home last year. The course is really interesting, and all the facilities are lovely and very modern. The only downside for me is the commute from the centre of Edinburgh, which is about 30-45 minutes on the bus. However, it is a lovely campus with beautiful views. Finding accommodation in the city can be hard and is on the expensive side, but I have really enjoyed living here. I've always found the social aspect very good, through societies and generally going out in the city. There's a good balance of going out and more relaxed activities. I really like the student union bar and am very excited for the reopening of the original student union in the spring. There could be more study spaces or space in the library, as it can be really hard to find seats anywhere near exam season.

Edinburgh Music is So Much Fun!

(5)·By Lyla·Music· Jun 2025
So far on this course I’ve had lots of opportunities to mix with people on my own course and others. Though first year is broad, you get so many chances to try out new things and develop your skills. It’s a really amazing course with some incredible people!

Biology / Biotechnology, Year 2

(5)·By Jennifer D·Biology· Jul 2021
The introductory lectures for biomedical sciences were interesting and the course organisers all seemed welcoming. We also got to choose an elective course in freshers week from a very wide variety of courses which meant I could also learn about something I was interested in beyond the scope of my course. Pollock Halls is a nice place to stay. It is clean and the food is decent - similar to school canteen food. The people are often quite cliquey though. There are a few university libraries in edinburgh to choose from - so there is a variety of places to choose to study. The libraries are modern inside and there are some good views from the windows of the main library. There is also a good library on the Kings Buildings campus so you will always have a place to study. The lecturers were friendly and approachable. I always felt I could ask questions and they were responded to well. The feedback, however, which we got on assignments was not always that helpful and felt rushed a lot of the time. This is frustrating when you put a lot of time into an essay and the feedback isn't helpful. The city of edinburgh is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited and the university is right there in the city centre. The night life is also really good - there are loads of clubs and pubs to go out to with different student nights. It isn't that cheap but not that expensive.

Geography, Year 2

(5)·By Arabella J·Geography· Jul 2021
Freshers was really good fun as everyone was meeting new people however freshers came with the freshers flu which meant that a lot of people were ill during freshers Pollock Halls was catered accommodation the food was not bad. I was lucky enough to have my own ensuites which was nice! The facilities are very good with both a main library and a the law library which were really nice. During the first week there were trials for sports teams and there were so many sports available to join which was great! There are also various societies which were very inclusive and a good opportunity to meet new people! I feel lucky to have started at a time when corona was not around which meant I could attend lectures and tutorials which gave me a good insight into uni life. Tutorials are held in smaller groups and it was a lot easier to engage in discussions and debates without feeling too much pressure Edinburgh as a city is great as not only does it offer the city life but you are never far away from beautiful countryside environments and reservoirs- for example arthurs seat and Carlton hill which are within walking distance from the halls of residence!

Geography, Year 2

Difficult for the first few days to meet new people. Really picked up on the 3rd day. The nights out were really fun and they allowed for just over a week of free time to settle in I was in Holland D, which was just renovated and really modern. An ensuite room. It was fairly small however The student union bar is fairly big but not really widely used unless for a sports social. The library and gyms are very good. Lecture halls are as you'd expect, can fit hundreds of students Interesting lectures. Enough work to be engaged but not overbearing. Weekly tutorials where you can meet peers and have close contact hours with post graduate students Amazing city. Small enough to get around easily, but full of attractions like the castle and the beach. Waverly train station makes it easy to access, and there are endless pubs and clubs etc

Veterinary Sciences, Year 3

(5)·By Claire G·Veterinary Sciences· Jul 2021
Freshers weeks was amazing. There were so many fun activities both with the main uni and the vet school. I meet so many amazing people and had a great time The accomodation was really good and they had some options for every need. There was a good price range and both catered and no catered choices The facilities are really good. The library is lovely. The vet school building has loads of great features and some really great study spaces Our course is very interactive with loads of practical classes. We get a lot of hands on time with animals. Our lecturers are also amazing and really go the extra mile to help us out The city is great. Everything is within walking distance making it all very accessible. There are loads of cute independent cafes which is great and some really cool shops

Veterinary Sciences, Graduate

Busy! Lots of meeting new people, socialising and exploring a new city My accommodation was a little further out of the city than most, but there were a lot of us there so we could have house parties there rather than always going out All good, more than one campus means you have options when it comes to picking a library with space, and the student union had great socials on a Saturday night Lectures given by specialists, and lots of practical sessions. Really enjoy all practicals as they are all so different and relevant to the course Lovely living in the capital city of Scotland. Great day and nightlife, in a city with amazing history and culture
