Student life has honestly been one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences for me. From the very start, I felt welcomed and supported, which made such a difference in helping me settle in and feel confident. University isn’t just about lectures and assignments – it’s about feeling part of a community, and that’s something I truly love about my experience. One of the biggest reasons I enjoy university so much is because I chose the right course for me. Studying something I’m genuinely interested in means it never feels like a chore. I actually look forward to learning, attending lectures, and developing my skills, which has made my motivation and confidence grow massively. Choosing the right course is so important, as it can completely shape your university experience and overall happiness. The level of support available has also been incredible. There is always help when you need it, whether that’s academic support from lecturers, guidance from tutors, or wellbeing services that make sure students are supported both inside and outside of their studies. Knowing that help is always available has made university feel much less overwhelming and has allowed me to fully enjoy the experience. If there was one area that could be improved, it would be having more opportunities for in-person meet-ups and social activities. As some learning and work is done from home, it can occasionally feel more isolated than traditional university life. More organised meet-ups or on-campus events would help students connect more easily, build friendships, and feel even more involved in the university community. Overall, I love student life and everything that comes with it. The balance between learning, support, and personal growth has made my time at university enjoyable, fulfilling, and exciting. It’s an experience that has helped me grow not only academically, but also as a person, and I’m really glad I chose the path that feels right for me.

The university has such amazing online studies with tutors who were contactable via email and phone around the clock. The study material was easy to read and you had a variety of material to choose from for TMA’s.

Being able to study online is very flexible as it works with my work schedule, the tutors are very contactable, and you receive plenty of help with assignments. There are opportunities to attend tutorials and join groups for social activities.

For someone who has never thought about studying for a degree, this is a big leap. The experience I have had so far is outstanding. The staff are extremely supportive with any problems I have, and the accessibility of the course itself is very easy to use, especially for people who don’t often use technology.

Not bad studying from home. I wish I had more support that I might find going to study at a residential university. Now looking into an engineering and science access course for free.

I moved here after having an unpleasant experience with a different university and am so thankful that I made this decision. The course is set out in a way that gives you all the information you need to find resources, submit essays, and ask questions. Tutors reply quickly to everything. Can’t fault it!

I started the open university in 2019 and through the duration of my course I've been nothing but pleased with the course content and tutors. Throughout the pandemic when other unis struggled with online learning I felt totally comfortable with my open uni course. I would recommend it to anyone, especially people who want to learn and also have kids and a job like me.

You can make your own time to do your work which helps with family life and balancing other commitments. There is lots of study material and you can reach out to your tutor and student services if you have any problems.
