University Life in London: The Queen Mary Experience
Great Student Life
Academically, the university is strong, particularly in subjects like Law, Medicine, and Engineering. Lecturers are generally knowledgeable and supportive, though, like any university, the quality of teaching can vary by department. The library is well stocked, but during exam season, it can get overcrowded, so finding study spaces can be a challenge.
Student life is vibrant, with plenty of societies, events, and nightlife options both on and off campus. The Students’ Union is active, and there are lots of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities. Being in East London, you’re also close to Shoreditch, Canary Wharf, and central London, which is great for both social life and career opportunities.
On the downside, the cost of living in London is high, and while the university does provide some affordable accommodation, it’s still pricier than many other UK universities. Some students also feel that certain admin processes, like enrollment and support services, could be more efficient.
Review of Student Life at Queen Mary University of London
I was going to go, but decided to go next year.
A Land of Opportunities
Studying maths at Queen Mary University of London has been a pretty good experience so far. The course is well-organized and covers a nice mix of theory and practical material, which keeps it interesting.
The lecturers are definitely one of the best parts. They really know their subject and are always happy to help if you’re stuck or need extra support. The tutorials and office hours have been very helpful, especially when I’ve struggled with some of the more complicated topics.
The campus itself is great too. The library has loads of useful resources, and there are plenty of study spaces if you need a quiet place to work. Plus, it’s nice being in East London—it’s such a vibrant area, and there’s always something going on.
Overall, QMUL has been a solid choice for me. It’s challenging, but the support and resources make it manageable, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the rest of the course unfolds.

How I felt during my course?
My time at university
I liked my course because it had a lot of breadth. I studied Comparative Literature and Hispanic Studies and loved the language components as well as the opportunity to study texts in different languages and cultures.
We had many opportunities to socialise as we were close to fun things in London and had great transport links. The university also has a great student union, where people can participate in a wide range of activities.
