As an international student, my experience at Leeds Beckett University has been a mix of positives and challenges. The university offers a modern campus, especially at City Campus, with good facilities like libraries, study spaces, and student support services. The teaching staff are generally approachable and knowledgeable, though the quality can vary depending on the course and module.

One of the best aspects is the cultural diversity—I’ve met students from all over the world, which has really enriched my experience. The Students’ Union organizes regular events, and there are many societies to join, though engagement sometimes depends on how proactive you are.

University is very good and I will recommend my friends to study at this university.

Starting my MA in International Relations at Leeds Beckett University in September 2024 has been one of the most fulfilling decisions I’ve made. Coming from Pakistan, I had a lot of expectations and a few concerns about studying abroad, but Leeds Beckett has exceeded them all.

I live in Wakefield, a nearby city just an 11–13 minute train journey from Leeds. Living here offers a great balance—Wakefield is quieter and more affordable compared to Leeds, while still providing easy access to the university and the city. The short commute means I enjoy a peaceful home environment while being close enough to take full advantage of everything Leeds has to offer.

The MA International Relations programme has been intellectually stimulating, with a focus on current global issues. The lecturers are incredibly supportive, and the coursework encourages independent thinking and discussion. I feel well-equipped for a future career in international affairs, and the programme has been everything I hoped for.

Socially, Leeds Beckett has been a wonderful place to meet new people. Despite living off-campus, I’ve been able to participate in various events and student societies, particularly those for international students. The support for students from abroad has been invaluable, making it easy to adjust and feel at home.

Leeds as a city is vibrant, diverse, and full of opportunities to enjoy student life—whether it’s exploring its cultural scene, enjoying good food, or relaxing with friends. There’s always something to do, and it’s easy to meet people and build connections.

Additionally, I’m happy to share that three of my junior friends from Pakistan have already started their journey at Leeds Beckett in the January 2025 intake. I’m proud to see them beginning their academic journeys here, and I have no doubt they will have the same enriching experience I’ve had so far.

As I approach the completion of my degree in September 2025, I can confidently say that my time here has been life-changing. I’ve recommended Leeds Beckett to my friends back in Pakistan, and I will continue to do so. The university provides an incredible balance of academic rigor, student support, and personal growth, making it a top choice for any international student.
