Course Overview - English Literature and German Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) - BA (Hons)
On the English Literature half of your programme, in year one, you will take modules aimed at developing the skills necessary for advanced literary study. In years two and three, you will choose from a range of literature modules that focus on specific periods, genres or themes. In each year, you will take half of your credits in English and half from your other subject.

German Studies (50% of your degree) combines advanced linguistic development with in-depth cultural study. You will take German language at beginners or advanced level, working towards becoming proficient, alongside cultural modules each semester, in addition to modules in your partner subject. Cultural modules cover a range of specialisms, enabling the study of the literature, films, sociolinguistics, histories and societies of German-speaking countries. A Year Abroad is spent in a German speaking country as a student at a university, an assistant in a school, or on a work placement.
Combined Degrees\
Most Combined Degrees allow you to adapt the weighting of each by 25% after the first year, helping you to keep your options open. Please note, however, students studying either a Business or Economics pathway in combination with another subject cannot increase from 25% to 50% or from 50% to 75% and it is not possible to transfer from a 50% to 75% Law. GCSE Mathematics and English at grade 4/C required. Applicants with equivalent qualifications or who do not meet these GCSE requirements will be considered on an individual basis according to their circumstances.

Extended Project
Applicants who offer the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and 3 A levels and meet our offer criteria will be made the standard offer, plus an alternative offer. This will be at one A Level grade lower plus a grade B in the EPQ, for example the offer would be ABB including A in English or ABC including A in English plus B in the EPQ.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
32 points overall with no score less than 4 and including 6 in HL English (either Language or Literature) or pass the IB Diploma plus 6,5,5 in 3 HL subjects including 6 in HL English (either Language or Literature)
WJEC Level 3 Advanced Skills Baccalaureate Wales
B in the Welsh Baccalaureate, plus AB at A level to include English at grade A.
