Psychology with Criminology Bachelor of Science (with Honours) - BSc (Hons)

You’ll explore crime and criminal behaviour through a psychological lens, developing an understanding of why people commit crime and how behaviour is shaped by individual, social and biological factors. This Psychology with Criminology BSc(Hons) degree combines core psychological theory with criminology to help you understand behaviour in the context of crime, justice and society.

You’ll study key areas of psychology such as biopsychology, developmental psychology, personality and individual differences, alongside criminology-focused topics including forensic psychology and criminal behaviour. Through this, you’ll gain insight into why people engage in crime and how factors such as family, society, peer influence and biology can shape behaviour.

From the start of the course, you’ll be encouraged to apply theory to real-life situations. You’ll explore current and sometimes challenging issues through case studies and applied learning, helping you understand how psychology and criminology are used within the criminal justice system and related professional settings.

You’ll also gain hands-on experience in our specialist psychology laboratories, using equipment such as EEG machines, eye-tracking technology, virtual reality systems and polygraph equipment. These practical sessions help you build confidence in research methods, data analysis and ethical practice, preparing you for employment or further study.

You’ll learn as part of a close-knit course community where students are supported throughout their degree. You’ll have a personal tutor to guide you academically and professionally, and for some elements of this course you may be taught by research-active staff alongside practising psychologists, criminologists and guest speakers from a range of professional backgrounds.

Alongside your studies, you’ll develop transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking and presentation skills, all of which are valued across many careers. You can also choose to complete the University’s Global Professional Award, helping you gain applied experience and build a portfolio to support your future career.

This course is accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and provides eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, if you graduate with a Lower Second Class Honours or higher and complete the empirical psychology project. This accreditation is reviewed on a regular basis.
