The BA (Hons) Studies in Early Childhood offers a globally relevant, research-informed and practice-focused education for students who are passionate about improving the lives of young children and their families. Recognising the crucial importance of the early years, from conception to age seven, the programme explores how children learn, develop and thrive within diverse cultural, social and educational contexts. Grounded in principles of children’s rights, inclusion and holistic development, the course views every child as a capable and active participant in their own learning. Students develop an understanding of the interconnected influences of family, community, culture and society, preparing them to work effectively in a range of early childhood settings internationally. Across three years of study, students build knowledge of child development, education and care, deepen their understanding of inclusive and evidence-based practice, and develop advanced skills in critical thinking, inquiry and leadership. A distinctive feature of the programme is its emphasis on international perspectives explored through engagement with UK early years policy, practice and regulation, enabling students to compare approaches across different countries and contexts. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to become reflective, culturally responsive and collaborative practitioners, equipped to work with families and professionals from different disciplines. Graduates leave well prepared to advocate for children’s rights, contribute to innovative practice, and make a positive impact on early childhood education and care worldwide.
