In the first year, you will build a strong foundation for studying at university level. You will develop key academic and professional skills such as communication, numeracy, critical thinking and independent learning, while exploring the scientific and social factors that influence health and wellbeing. You will be introduced to human biology and how the body functions, alongside the role of public health in society and the wider determinants of health. You will also begin to develop your understanding of scientific inquiry and data analysis, learning how to interpret evidence and understand patterns in health outcomes. Through project work and practical activities, you will develop your skills in research, analysis and problem-solving, as well as an awareness of professional practice in health and science.
As you progress, you will explore public health in greater depth, including how health is influenced at local, national and global levels. You will examine areas such as health promotion, epidemiology and policy, and develop your understanding of how to improve health outcomes for communities.
The programme prepares you for careers in public health, healthcare, local government and the voluntary sector.
