Maths and physics are closely interlinked, each one providing fascinating insights into the other. This joint degree offers a rigorous mathematical training, with the flexibility to complement it with theoretical physics modules from UCL Physics and Astronomy.
In the first year of this BSc course, you will take the same modules as the single-subject Mathematics students. You will gain a strong foundation in mathematics through core modules in algebra, analysis, applied mathematics and mathematical methods. The first half of the second year follows the same structure, except Quantum Mechanics may be taken in place of Algebra 3. In the second half of the second year and throughout the third year, you will choose from a range of relevant pure and applied mathematics options, supplemented by physics modules taught within UCL Physics & Astronomy. The balance between mathematics and physics can be adjusted to reflect your interests.
This course is offered as a three-year BSc or a four-year MSci degree. The first two years of the course are identical, and students are advised to apply for the MSci degree in the first instance, as it is possible to transfer to the BSc during the first three years.
