This new practical degree is affiliated with the Association of Photography and will teach you fundamental technical and studio skills, such as lighting, camera operation, dark room practice, and location photography. Developed in consultation with photographers Christine Harding, Mark Taylor and Mike Baster, this degree is focused on commercial photography and ‘capturing a moment’. You will be passionate about the visual world and have strong communication skills, vital on any photo shoot. During the course you will study topics such as composition and the history of photography and cover areas of photography including still life, portraiture, food and editorial to help you become a well-rounded photographer. Studying in our dedicated digital arts facilities, you will have access to a range of professional resources, including our purpose-built photographic studio. Once you complete this course you may wish to gain further experience and seek employment as a photographers assistant. Or, you may wish wish to set-up your own business and work on a freelance basis. Some students choose to continue their studies and under a relevant Level 6 Honours Degree (Top-up) at Newcastle College University Centre.
