During your time on the course, you’ll develop the knowledge, skills and values and behaviours required for professional social work as stipulated by the professional regulator. Topics you’ll explore will include how to undertake statutory legal interventions, how to communicate with people with a range of needs, the significance of working with colleagues from other disciplines and the importance of supervision and reflective practice. You’ll consider theories including sociological and psychological perspectives, and factors that might impact on the life course from pre-birth through to death. You’ll consider the impact of politics, social policy and how welfare is delivered in the UK and internationally, whilst developing an understanding of the legal framework for social work and how the law is used to safeguard, support and protect.
