Educational psychology draws on a wide range of psychological theories and real-world experiences to build an understanding of how children develop and learn. It takes into account the social and cultural contexts of children’s lives and schooling, as well as their individual growth and development.
Our course covers all core elements of psychological study as required by the British Psychological Society (BPS), from lifespan development, biopsychology, and research methods, to social, critical and individual differences. Alongside, you will cover specialist education-based modules that will explore how children learn, special educational needs, individuality and diversity in education, as well as focussing on social, emotional, and mental health aspects of young children. Furthermore, key psychological theories, principles, and policies in the context of education, society, community, and culture will be covered.
This course is accredited by the British Psychology Society (BPS). Successful completion provides students with Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC).

Pearson BTEC National Extended Diploma - grade DDM. Acceptable subjects include: Applied Law; Applied Science; Business; Children's Care, Learning Development; Children's Play, Learning and Development; Enterprise and Entrepreneurship; Environmental Sustainability; Forensic and Criminal Investigation; Health and Social Care; Health Professions; Personal and Business Finance; Pharmaceutical Science; Public Services; Sport and Exercise Sciences. Access to HE Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum 128 UCAS Tariff points. Acceptable subjects are Psychology, Social Sciences, Biology/Human Sciences and Health Professions. OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma - grade DDM. Acceptable subjects include: Business; Health and Social Care; Public Services. T level - We welcome applications from students undertaking T level qualifications in Education and Childcare; Health; Healthcare Science; Science. Eligible applicants will be asked to achieve a minimum overall grade of Distinction as a condition of offer IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 32 or minimum 128 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered. A maximum of three A level-equivalent qualifications will be accepted towards meeting the UCAS tariff requirement. AS levels, or qualifications equivalent to AS level, are not accepted. The Extended Project qualification (EPQ) may be accepted towards entry, in conjunction with two A-level equivalent qualifications. Please contact the University directly if you are unsure whether you meet the minimum entry requirements for the course. We do not accept CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education & Care (Early Years Educator - VRQ).
Access to HE Diploma

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
- Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 32 or minimum 128 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects. If you plan to meet the Level 2 course requirements through your IB Diploma you will need to achieve Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 5 in English and Higher Level 4 or Standard Level 4 in Mathematics
