**Course overview**<br/><br/>This is an accelerated route for experienced practitioners and researchers who have a substantial number of publications in a thematically linked area.<br/><br/>Your work should form a body of research and you’ll need to demonstrate at least eight peer-reviewed publications, available in the public domain.<br/><br/>An advisor will help you to adapt this research work and you’ll need to submit a thesis of eight to 12 publications. You’ll also submit a linking narrative that defines the context of the work and how each paper fits into the ‘story’ that the body of work describes. <br/><br/>You’ll submit a critical commentary of 10,000 – 15,000 words and your work will be examined. You’ll be questioned on aspects of this work and you’ll have the opportunity to respond constructively in a viva voce exam.<br/><br/>Past and current examples of PhD by publication undertaken by medics include: screening for pre-eclampsia; emergency medical education and the interface with social media; advances in multidisciplinary tracheostomy care and their impact on the safety and quality of care in the critically ill.<br/><br/>**Features and benefits**<br/><br/><br/>- A route designed for experienced clinicians and researchers with a significant body of published work (journal articles, academic publications or papers).<br/><br/><br/>- You’ll adapt your existing published material plus a critical commentary to gain a doctoral qualification.<br/><br/><br/>- You can complete this accelerated route on a full-time (6 months) or part-time (12 months) basis, to fit with your work commitments.<br/><br/><br/>- Research in our Faculty brings together internationally recognised and multidisciplinary researchers in six established Research Groups: Mental Health; Social and Cognitive Ageing; Global Perspectives, Marginalisation and Thriving Communities; Stress, Health and Performance; Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation and Communication Disability.<br/>
