Explore your creativity with the 3D Design and Craft programme, ideal for those wanting to refine their skills as a designer and artisan maker, where traditional craft meets contemporary design and hands-on experimentation. Blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary production and marketing approaches you will learn how to design and make beautiful products and also to find and develop your identity in design, develop your own business and extend your practice.
This hands-on programme offers access to state-of-the-art workshops and studios, where you’ll explore multi-disciplinary approaches across design, techniques, processes and production under the guidance of experienced lecturers and industry professionals. From decorative arts, ceramics, jewellery and wearable items, screen printing, wood work, rug tufting, upcycling, fabric manipulation and product construction, you’ll gain the expertise to craft a professional portfolio with marketing and entrepreneurial skills that sets you apart.
With opportunities to work on live briefs, collaborate with artisans and makers, and showcase your creations at exhibitions, this degree prepares you for success.
This creative-industry-focused programme typically provides 16 hours of contact time per week across the academic year. Students can typically expect to receive 10 hours of taught sessions and 6 hours of supervised open studio time, supported by specialist technicians, and have open access to studios and workshops (subject to School opening times and availability). In the final year, students typically engage in a higher proportion of supervised, independent study, reflecting the increased focus on self‑directed practice and specialist project work at this level.
