Programme Overview
* 1 year full-time foundation year followed by a 2-year intensive fast-track programme including summer terms.
Begin your journey as a screenwriter with a Foundation Year that introduces you to the wider world of filmmaking before progressing into specialist script development. Combining creative writing, collaborative practice, and industry-focused learning, this three-year degree helps you discover your voice, master the craft of storytelling, and graduate with a portfolio of original work ready for today's screen industries.
Programme Overview
* 1 year full-time foundation year followed by a 2-year intensive fast-track programme including summer terms.
* High proportion of scheduled contact hours provides new writers with substantial one-to-one development time.
* Taught by working industry professionals, including script development executives from the British Film Institute, the Script Factory, BBC and a range of production companies.
* Professional actors will stage much of the students’ work.
* Progression: Students who graduate from this programme may pursue a career as Script Editor or Script Readers for film, TV, games, online content and print.
* Access equipment and facilities outside of class time.
Students work alongside our Practical Filmmaking students which creates exciting opportunities to see their scripts on film or to get involved in other areas of filmmaking outside of the set curriculum.
70% of Central Film School graduates go on to work and /or further study 15 months after the course.
We are committed to providing our students every opportunity possible to speak directly with filmmakers of all kinds to learn about their journeys to becoming successful professionals in their chosen field.
We organise a series of events throughout the year where screen professionals tell their stories. In these sessions, a Guest Speaker is invited into the school to speak about their career and experience in the industry.

* Tim Haines – TV Drama and Documentary Maker: Walking with Dinosaurs, Primeval, The Loch
* Richard Hewitt - Film Producer: Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything, Never Let Me Go, The Aeronauts
* Eddie Hamilton - Editor: Top Gun: Maverick, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Kingsman: The Secret Service
Subject to approval by the Office for Students, Central Film School will have probationary degree awarding powers from September 2027. Achieving this milestone would enable us to award our own degrees while continuing to deliver the specialist, industry-focused education that defines us. Whilst this process is completed, all of our degrees will continue to be validated by Falmouth University. Students can enrol with confidence knowing their qualification will be fully recognised.
