BA (Hons) Digital Art explores what art can become in a world shaped by digital culture, emerging technologies, and global networks. This studio-based degree combines creative experimentation with critical thinking, encouraging you to work across digital and physical media while developing your own distinctive artistic voice.
You will investigate contemporary approaches to digital making through areas such as AI, digital image-making, moving image, digital fabrication, immersive media, sound, installation, and physical–digital hybrid practices. Alongside technical and material experimentation, you will explore the cultural, social, and environmental impact of technology and consider how artists are responding to an increasingly networked world.
Digital Art at Cardiff Met approaches technology as a creative and critical material in its own right. You will learn through hands-on studio practice, workshops, critiques, exhibitions, and collaborative projects, supported by access to digital fabrication facilities, creative technologies, and specialist studio spaces within Cardiff School of Art & Design.
The course encourages experimentation, interdisciplinary working, and independent thinking, preparing you for a range of creative futures. Graduates may progress into careers across the creative and cultural industries, including digital content creation, exhibition and installation practice, creative technology, freelance practice, or postgraduate study.
Situated within the Department of Material Practice, the programme bridges traditions of making with contemporary digital systems, offering a distinctive approach to digital creativity that combines critical enquiry, material understanding, and future-facing artistic practice.
