You’ll develop practical skills through hands-on projects in live audio, recording, mixing and marketing while studying topics ranging from audio production technologies to entertainment law. With access to industry-standard facilities, including a Dolby Atmos-certified sound lab and professional recording studios, you’ll gain experience using the same equipment found in professional environments. The industry-relevant curriculum prepares you for a wide range of careers, including music production, sound engineering, artist management and music marketing.<br/><br/><strong>What will I study?</strong><br/>Combine your love of music with sound business practice. You’ll develop relevant management skills and a firm understanding of the music business. Youll study the importance of intellectual property and develop a solid understanding of how to negotiate contracts, learn about the unique nature of dealing with recording artists and how to maximise the potential of compositions with a variety of recording techniques. Youll also spend time on a number of DIY approaches to the music business.<br/><br/>At its core, our Music Production and Business programme aims to produce creative graduates with the necessary technical, theoretical and professional skills for employment within the creative industries. You’ll gain comprehensive training in key elements of music and audio production: studio production, music performance and composition, immersive audio techniques, critical listening and analysis, sound design, and live audio production techniques.<br/><br/>You’ll gain an understanding of the connections between these activities and how they are linked into future careers in the music and audio industry. You’ll have the chance to develop different skill sets simultaneously and to an advanced degree.<br/><br/><strong>What facilities can I use?</strong><br/>Our state-of-the-art recording studios and Dolby Atmos-certified sound lab provide access to professional spaces and industry-standard technology for hands-on music production experience. Facilities include Pro Tools Ultimate studios, live rooms, vocal booths, Avid S6 and S3/S4 control surfaces, UAD Apollo x8 interfaces and high-end equipment from leading brands such as Neve, Universal Audio and Focusrite. As one of the first UK universities to introduce Dolby Atmos into a music environment, BNU offers students an advanced professional setting for recording, mixing and audio production.<br/><br/><strong>What are my career prospects?</strong><br/>Throughout the course, you’ll be supported in developing the professional, creative and leadership skills needed for a successful career in the music industry. The BA (Hons) Music Production and Business degree prepares you for a wide range of roles, including music producer, sound engineer, artist manager, music marketer, studio manager and live sound technician, alongside careers in publishing, A&R, licensing and music entrepreneurship. Graduates can also continue their studies through postgraduate courses such as MA Music Business or MA Music and Audio Production.
