What To Expect
Choosing to study BA (Hons) Makeup, Hair and Prosthetics for Film at AUB provides a unique opportunity to explore the Bournemouth Film School (BFS), a leader in the Screen and Creative Industries that has produced job-ready graduates for over 60 years. This student-centred experience delves into the diverse spectrum of makeup transformation within the film industry. Our hands-on, practical studio-based learning equips you with the skills to play a key creative role as a makeup, hair, wig, and prosthetic artist in film.
You’ll engage with and master established techniques in makeup design and transformation, digital effects, hairdressing, textured hair work, wig making, sculpting, mould making, and 3D printing for silicone and foam latex prosthetics. Your creative and technical practice is enhanced by examining important topics relevant to makeup artistry, such as identity, beauty concepts, characterisation, representation, ethics, and sustainability. This framework allows you to progress from assistant to artist, eventually designing makeup and prosthetics for film.
Industry-led and collaborative film opportunities help build professional skill sets, guiding you to make informed decisions about your specialist makeup practice and future career. Our teaching model places you in real-world production settings, enabling you to work closely with actors, filmmakers, directors, and costume makers. This hands-on experience targets industry skill gaps and boosts employability while nurturing practical knowledge and resilience.
