BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design
Design spaces that shape how people feel, connect, and experience the world.
At Arts University Bournemouth, Interior Architecture and Design is explored through making, experimentation, and real-world impact. You’ll design environments across healthcare, hospitality, public space, retail, cultural and immersive experiences –developing interiors that respond to human behaviour, wellbeing and changing social needs.
Working within a dynamic studio culture, you’ll develop ideas through drawing, modelmaking, material experimentation, spatial prototyping, and digital workflows. The course combines architectural thinking with spatial storytelling, atmosphere, and human-centred design, helping you create interiors that are both conceptually strong and carefully resolved.
Immersive design methods are embedded throughout. Using augmented reality, spatial modelling, and digital prototyping, you’ll explore how environments are experienced, communicated, and tested at real scale. These approaches support emerging areas of contemporary practice including experiential design, cultural environments and interactive spatial experiences.
As you progress through the course, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your practice through one of three specialist named award pathways:
* Health and Wellbeing – exploring how interior environments support care, inclusion, accessibility, and quality of life
* Immersive Technologies – using augmented and immersive spatial methods to communicate, test, and experience design ideas
* Detailing and Styling – focusing on materiality, lighting, atmosphere, furniture, and the crafted resolution of space
Graduates leave with a competitive portfolio, a distinctive design identity, and the creative, technical and professional confidence to work across interior architecture, spatial design, experiential environments, and related creative industries.
