Why do you want to study this course or subject?

Albert Einstein intelligently once said, "Try not to become a man of success but rather try to become a man of value," and I wholeheartedly believe that this quote applies to all aspects of my life consistently. Personally, I feel most successful when I am doing something of value in life, which is one of the many reasons why I want to study Accounting and Finance; I will be of value not just to my university but to myself as an individual. Our society has grown and continues to thrive on the foundation of finance, and I would love to add value to the building blocks of today's society. Accounting and Finance is not just about numbers and maths but also a combination of writing and learning about today's laws integrated within the economy, which is another reason why I would appreciate studying this course. Last year, there were eighty businesses born every hour, but sadly fifty percent will fail in the next five years due to lack of information on the financial crisis in the UK. I aim to be of value and change the statistics so more businesses survive, which is why I believe this is the right course for me to choose.

How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject?

In college, I study three A-levels: Accounting, Law, and Psychology. I decided to take Accounting because I love working with numbers, and I have been very interested in the financial sector since I was young. I knew what I wanted to do before I entered college, so taking Accounting allowed me to see a snippet of what my degree course would entail. Accounting is also a complicated course, which makes me more determined to complete it so I can show myself that I am able to overcome obstacles and be of value. I chose to study Law because I was interested in understanding how society continues to work and why laws are created. Since starting the course, I have learnt that laws are made to protect the public; companies have laws to protect their businesses and employees, which relates to the course I want to study at university because I need to comprehend how to protect the financial aspects of a business. Studying Law has given me the opportunity to apply my knowledge to real-life situations; for example, corporate law showed me how shareholders gain their rights and the things a business needs to do to be a private or public company. I selected Psychology to study at college because it holds fundamental research that changes the way we understand people and the way society works. I have developed my essay writing skills due to this course. This gives me prior knowledge on how to write essays and compile evidence to support my work in Accounting and Finance.

What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences useful?

I am so invested in Accounting and Finance that I watch HMRC Webinars on simplifying tax issues and accounting principles to broaden my knowledge on the subject already. During my spare time, I like to watch documentaries about the economy and the systems put in place to help our country be democratic because I become more familiar with the real world and what it consists of. There is a class in my college called Palmer's Economic and Financial Society, which talks about the issues and debates of the economic and financial industry, helping me to assimilate what my life will be. I have also gained experience by completing work experience at a non-profit organisation to learn how they manage money. They showed me what they do after they have received the money and what the money is spent on. It enabled me to realise what Accounting has to offer. I feel like I would be a great asset to your university with this course because I am dedicated and determined to be of value to society, and this is the best approach for me to lead with.
