BTEC Results Day 2025

It can be a stressful wait before you find out your BTEC results and it's never helped if you aren't prepared. To calm your nerves, here's all the information you need for BTEC Results Day 2025.

When is BTEC Results Day 2025?

The BTEC results come out on Thursday 14th August 2025, though it can depend on how your school or college choose to organise this alongside A-Level Results Day as well as the level or type of BTEC you studied.

Sometimes BTEC results are released as early as July, before A-Level Results Day, while other colleges choose to share results with students on the same day as A-Levels. It's likely that you'll already have an idea of the grades for some subject units so this will bring all your hard work together in your final grades.

What time are BTEC results released?

The times tend to vary depending on where you are studying. Most results are out by 9 am.

Your delivery method may also depend on where you are studying. Results may be delivered by email, post, or may even be posted on ResultsPlus direct.

How will I get my BTEC results?

How your BTEC results are delivered to you will depend on your college. Some colleges will ask you to pick your results up in person, while other colleges may email you your results, or tell you to find them as part of an intranet portal.

Your college will let you know how you will receive your results at some point. If you're still unsure about what is going to happen on Results Day, you can visit your school or college to speak to a member of staff to understand the process.

What is the grading system for BTECs?

BTECs all have the same grading criteria. For some BTECs, such as a BTEC National, you will receive as many as three grades for the course.

The grading criteria are:

• Distinction* (D*) which is the equivalent of a A* at A-Level.
• Distinction (D) which is the equivalent of a A at A-Level.
• Merit (M) which is the equivalent of a C A-Level.
• Pass (P) which is the equivalent of an E at A-Level.
• Near pass (N) which is mainly available for BTEC Nationals. This means that you will pass the overall course, but not each individual unit.

These grades are worked out on a points system. Each unit in a module will earn you a set number of points, at the end, your points total is added up and that forms your final grade.

How do my BTEC results and grades compare to others?

In 2024, more than 200,000 students received their Level 3 BTEC results, with the most popular subjects being Business and Management, Sport and Applied Science. One in four students opt to study BTECs.

The grade boundaries for BTEC Nationals for Results Day 2025 have been published on Pearson's website, the exam board behind the qualification. You can find out how you did in your chosen subject now that you have your results.

The number of students securing their first choice at university rose in 2025, to 226,580. 82% of 18-year-olds applying, were successful in getting their firm choice. It's the same percentage as last year, but the number of applicants were higher.

What if I don't get the BTEC results I wanted?

All is not lost! You have several options. You can re-take your course, or ask if you can re-take specific modules to improve your score, though this will depend on the school or college, and whether they allow this.

What if your BTEC results are higher than the entry requirements for your university course?

That's great to hear! If you're heading to uni, you will automatically be accepted to your firm choice. But, if you'd like to explore other options, you can look at other options available in Clearing.

If you find a course in Clearing, you can go through the process of self-release which will decline your firm choice place and allow you to re-apply to other universities in Clearing. Please note that if you use self-release, you can't change your mind. Your place at your firm choice will no longer be available to you, so make sure to thoroughly consider your options or receive an informal offer from a university before declining the place at your firm choice. Can I resit my BTEC?

You can resit an external assessment once. Paper-based assessments will need to wait until the next exam cycle period before you can resit them.

Resits will also depend on your college and what you are studying. How your BTEC was assessed is another important aspect to consider, especially as most of those that are coursework-based will need to have entire modules re-done.

You can decide whether you need to resit an exam or module after speaking to your university. They may offer a foundation degree while you resit the exams or you could go somewhere else entirely! If you need a particular grade, there is the option of going through Clearing to find a new course.

What if I don't agree with my BTEC result?

You do have the right to appeal your grade. The awarding body for your qualification will have the appeal process laid out, so you will need to apply through your college.

Some bodies may have a limit on appeals. This is to stop people from appealing their grades as many times as possible until they get the best grade. Most will allow you to appeal the grade at least once. Speak to your teacher to find out more.

Can I still attend university with a BTEC?

Yes, you can! Your BTEC will be converted into a points score through the UCAS tariff points and, providing you have enough points, you can still attend university.

Not all universities will accept a BTEC but the majority now do including many Russell Group Universities.
